WACO girls storm back for win

CARDINAL - The WACO girls' basketball team scored a comeback win on Tuesday night in Eldon, their first win of the year. WACO outscored Cardinal 42-18 in the second half to put one in the winner's column, 59-45.
The Warriors started out slow, getting outscored by Cardinal 10-8 in the first quarter and 16-9 in the second. The Comets led 26-17 at the break.
WACO dominated the third quarter. The Warriors completely took over the game in the third period, outscoring the Comets 21-3. That gave WACO a 38-29 lead going into the fourth period.
The fourth quarter was the highest scoring of any of the four periods. WACO pulled away with the win, outscoring Cardinal 21-15 to run away with their first win of the season.
Aubri Garnsey led the Warriors with 17 points in the win, going 4-8 from the field, 1-2 from beyond the arc and 8-13 from the free throw line. She also finished the day with five steals.
Both Kristen Conley and Clara Schmitz had 14 points in the win. Conley also pulled down six rebounds and went 6-6 from the charity stripe.
Nadiyah Brown had five points in the win. Grace Conwell scored three. Ashleigh Hallett scored two points and pulled down two rebounds. Laney graber finished with two points and three assists, and Maysan Lee scored two points of her own.
The Warriors moved to 1-3 with the win. They'll have their hands full tonight (Friday) when they host Central Lee, the No. 12 team in Class 3A.
