The first-ever Iowa High School Athletic Association boys basketball rankings have been released, and one area team has a spot in the inaugural rankings.
The unbeaten WACO boys continue to impress, and one year after coming seconds away from a state berth, the Warriors are all set for another long run, at least based on games in November and December.
WACO is now 7-0 on the year with almost every win coming via a blowout. The Warriors did have a knockdown, drag-out game at Winfield-Mount Union on Dec. 6.
WACO’s ranking slots them behind Grand View Christian, North Linn, Bellevue and Gladbrook-Reinbeck, but just ahead of familiar foes Lynnville-Sully and St. Mary’s Remsen, the team WACO faced in the Class 8-Player football championship at the end of fall.
Besides Grand View Christian in Class 1A, Cenral Lyon earned a No. 1 spot in Class 2A. Cedar Rapids Xavier leads the way in Class 3A, and Waukee Northwest tops the list in Class 4A.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference has two teams in the Top-5. West Burlington is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 2A. The Falcons could be the Warriors’ SEISC Shootout matchup if the two squads continue to stay in first throughout the next couple of months.
