LETTS ? The WACO wrestlers opened their dual season with a 39-36 win over West Burlington-Notre Dame and a loss to Louisa Muscatine.
The final score between WACO and L-M has not yet been finalized due to errors during the meet.
L-M sent an ineligible wrestler to the bench, and after reporting at the wrong weight class, he earned a win. He earned another win later, wrestling at the proper weight class. The official at the meet made a mistake in attempting to correct the scoring that resulted, and now the final decision is up to the state.
Either way, L-M will win as a team, but individual matches could be affected by the final decision.
Despite the confusion, WACO Coach Sterling Rex is happy with his team?s performance.
?We wrestled pretty well, but just didn?t have the numbers to win (against L-M),? he said.
The Warriors could only fill eight of the 14 spots in the varsity competition.
Dylon Evans (138), Kevin Anderson (145), and Cey Saeugling (160) each picked up two wins on the night.
?It was nice to get a win, too,? Rex said, commenting on the competition against West Burlington-Notre Dame. ?A couple of guys got big wins against West Burlington ? Tommy Morris at 132 and Skyler Miller at 220 both helped with the final outcome.?
The Warriors will wrestle again on Saturday in Thornburg at the Tri-County Tournament.
