WACO sweeps New London

WAYLAND - The WACO and New London basketball teams squared off in a SEISC South Division doubleheader on Friday night and both games ended with the same results; a WACO win.
The Warriors outlasted the Tigers 55-49 in the girls. The New London boys took the sixth-ranked Warrior boys to the final buzzer, but WACO hung on 55-53.
The WACO girls played shut down defense early in the first game of the doubleheader. New London was held scoreless in the first five minutes, with WACO leading 7-0 with just three to play in the first quarter. New London claewd back to cut the Warrior lead to 15-7 after one quarter and 27-20 at halftime.
WACO's lead was just five, at 42-37 after the third quarter, but the Warriors pulled away in the final eight minutes to begin 2020 with a win.
Maysan Lee had a big night, scoring 19 points for WACO. Ellah Kissell dropped in 16 points. Morgan Graber had 13. Grace Conwell scored three, and the trio of Grace Coble, Lindsey Roth and Laney Graber had two apiece.
New London was led by a 16-point performance by Marah Hartrick. Ashlyn McSorley and Layney Loyd scored 19 points apiece. Kara Krieger had nine, and both Natlie Burden and Addie Pry finished with two.
The boys game began much like the girls contest. WACO led 14-2 after the first four minute of the game. New London cut the lead all the way down to five points in the first period but WACO led 18-11 after one.
The Warriors held a 28-19 lead at halftime and a 41-31 lead going into the fourth quarter. New London put the pressur eon in the final period, getting the Warriors' advantage down to one possession in the final minutes, but the Warriors clung on to stay unbeaten.
Drew Kissell led WACO with 18 points in the win. Pietro Vannini had 11. Braden Hammond scored 10. Nik Coble had nine. Gabe Reichenbach finished with five, and Elijah McGohan had two.
New London picked up a 20-point game from Blaise Porter. Demontae Watkins scored 11. Kade Benjain scored 10. Grant Swanson had six. Markel Luckett scored four, and Devon Swanson had two.
