WACO basketball hasn’t been just one of the best teams in Southeast Iowa, but one of the best teams in Class 1A across the state.
After another week of action, the Warriors find themselves inside the top five rankings of Class 1A boys Iowa High School Athletic Associations list once again.
This time around, WACO is sitting at No. 3 in the class.
WACO has seen a lot of success thus far to say the least.
The Warriors have yet to see defeat, amassing an overall record of 13-0 and a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North record of 9-0. Both are SEISC North Division bests.
Through the season thus far, WACO has won every game by at least double digits with the exception of two four point wins over Winfield-Mt. Union and New London.
Leading the Warriors in scoring this go around its junior Hunter Hughes. Hughes is averaging 18.5 points per game along with five rebounds and four assists (team-best). His 4.1 steals a contest are a team-high as well.
Fellow junior Colton Leichty follows with an 8.6 points per game average. Leichty pulls down 4.8 rebounds as well.
Senior’s Cody Graber (7.5 PPG), Simeon Reichenbach (7.4 PPG) and Odee Shtefanchuk (7 PPG) all average at least seven points per game. Graber also pulls down a team-best 7.8 rebounds.
Isaac Oswald (5.3 PPG), Mason Miller (4.3 PPG), Reece Oswald (4.3 PPG) and Chase Waterhouse (4.0 PPG) all follow in scoring.
After a conference rivalry battle against second seeded Winfield-Mt. Union (11-2, 10-1) on Tuesday night, Columbus (2-12, 1-8) awaits on Friday.
