WACO, Van Buren County eliminated
Season comes to an end for pair of area girls basketball teams

Both WACO and Van Buren County were in girls basketball action on Tuesday night. WACO was eliminated in the Class 1A Region 8 tournament, and Van Buren County was knocked out in Class 2A Region 6 play.
No. 8 (1A) Montezuma 66, WACO 42
Top-seeded Montezuma jumped out to an early lead, taking an 18-7 advantage after one quarter and a 35-13 lead into the halftime break.
WACO lost the third and fourth quarters by just one point each. The Warriors were down 53-30 going into the final eight minutes.
WACO finished the year 13-10 overall. Montezuma (18-4) will host Holy Trinity Catholic (20-2) in the regional semifinals.
No. 5 (2A) Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 68, Van Buren County 25
After leading the Warriors by just six points, at 17-11, after one quarter, EBF exploded with a 22-2 second quarter that led to a runaway victory for the Rockets in the regional quarterfinals.
Ivy Davidson led VBC with 10 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots in the loss. Sophia Jirak ended the game with seven points. Marlee Mertens scored six, and Kayley Snowgren ended with two.
Van Buren County ended the year 7-16. EBF (21-1) will host Wilton (9-13) in the regional semifinals.
