WACO, Van Buren split doubleheader

WAYLAND - The Warriors of WACO hosted the Warriors of Van Buren County in SEISC South Division play on Monday night. The seventh-ranked Van Buren girls rolled to a 63-20 victory and the third-ranked WACO boys raced out to a 51-29 win.
The WACO girls played a solid first quarter and led Van Buren 10-8 after eight minutes. Van Buren quickly erased that lead, however, and took a 24-12 lead into halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Van Buren had stretched their advantage to 46-19.
Van Buren was led by Taryn Scheuerman, who went for 24 points and nine blocked shots. Isabel Manning had 18 points and four steals. Madison Bartholowmew and Salena Sayre had six points apiece. Lexi Jirak scored five. Ella Jirak scored four.
Grace Davidson didn't score in the win, but she did lead the team with 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
The WACO girls were led by Morgan Graber's seven points. Maysan Lee had six. Laney Graber scored four. Lela Fort had two, and Grace Conwell scored one.
The Waco boys led 6-5 after the first quarter, 21-11 at halftime and 39-17 after three periods. The two teams split the fourth quarter 12-12.
Nik Coble finished the night with 16 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks to lead the Warriors. Pietro Vanni added 11 points, six steals and four assists. Braden Hammmond had three points. Drew Kissell had two points and four assists. Vincent Jones, Elijah McGohan and Dalton Diers each scored two points.
Wyatt Mertens led Van Buren with nine points. Jackson Manning had eight. Lane Davis scored five, Tony Davidson had four, and Owen Loeffler finished with three.
