VICTOR — Victor, Iowa, was the site of WACO’s Week 4 football game against HLV, and it was the visiting Warriors who were victorious in a district clash.
WACO waltzed into HLV territory and got out with a 49-20 win, the fourth Warrior victory in five tries to start the season.
WACO scored the first three touchdowns of the game, sandwiching a 46-yard touchdown pass from Clayton Miller to Isaac Rich in between two Louden Huisenga touchdown runs.
HLV scored later in the first period to cut the WACO lead to 21-6, but Miller hit right back with a 41-yard strike to Gage Samo. After one quarter, WACO led 28-6.
Both defenses held in the second quarter, but the Warriors got right back on it in the third. Miller scampered 15 yards for a touchdown to start the second half off, putting the Warriors up 34-6.
Later in the third, leading 34-12, Miller dashed to the end zone again, this time from 18 yards out. Huisenga came up big on the ensuing HLV possession, getting two points on a safety.
Before the third quarter came to an end, Huisenga burned HLV on offense once more. He ran seven yards to the end zone to pick up his third touchdown of the day, and put WACO up 49-12.
HLV would score one more in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.
Miller finished the game 14-for-17 for 220 passing yards nd two touchdowns, as well as 53 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.
Huisenga went for 109 rushing yards and three scores, to go along with 51 receiving yards. Samo led the receivers with six catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Miller led the team with eight tackles. Huisenga finished with five.
WACO is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the district. The Warriors will play at Easton Valley (2-2, 1-1) on Friday night.
