WEST POINT — WACO softball’s season came to an end on Tuesday night with a 13-2 loss to Holy Trinity Catholic.
The Warriors were looking good early, but their lead wouldn’t last long as the Crusaders stormed back in the following inning.
WACO (0-17) came out of the gates swinging in the Class 1A region 6 matchup.
The Warriors built a quick 2-0 lead over the Crusaders (7-11) in the first inning as Natalie Wagler and Madison Miller both carded runs.
To the Warriors dismay, that lead would only last in their half of the inning.
In the bottom half of the first, HTC answered back with three runs of its own.
It was a tough half inning for WACO as all three of the Crusaders runs scored on past balls at home plate. At the same time, the Crusaders were given four freebases on a trio of walks and one error.
This was a common theme throughout the rest of the contest.
In the bottom of the second, HTC scored a whopping eight runs to make it 11-2. Out of those eight runs, six were scored off an error or past ball.
WACO continued to battle, getting runners in scoring position in each of the next two innings, which included a triple from Rhiannon Horn. But they couldn’t get the runs home.
Meanwhile, the Crusaders added another pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning to seal it.
With the postseason loss, WACO ends it season at 0-17.
