PACKWOOD — Wapello visited the Panthers Friday for a Class 1A District 5 football game and left with a 35-0 win.
Pekin did not attempt a pass in the loss while Tade Parsons was 7-for-9 for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He is first in class at 77 percent completions and second in yards, but Colton Comstock made the first interception off him this season.
Comstock led Pekin’s offense with 50 yards on 15 carries while Logan Lauderman and Sven Dahlstrom combined for 17 carries for 56 yards.
Logan Baker led the Pekin defense with two tackles for loss. Cade Bemis and Nolan Greiner each had four solo tackles.
Pekin plays at Columbus Friday.
As Colton Comstock (11) fakes a pass, Joseph Coates (47) hands off to Deklan Hampton, who follows his blocker, Hudson VanEnglenhoven (78) during Pekin’s season opener at Cardinal. Pekin lost at home 35-0 to Wapello Friday. (Doug Brenneman/Union)
