MT. PLEASANT - After a spring off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mt. Pleasant girls' soccer team has its first big news of the school year. Senior Chloe Warner, signed her letter of intent last week to attend and play soccer at Southeastern Community College.
Warner was one of the top defenders on the Panthers' 2019 Southeast Conference championship team, and also finished the year with a goal and an assist. She says she's happy her new home will be right down Highway 34. 'SCC is close to home, and I love being around my family,” Warner said. 'Also, I just felt like it was the best option for me.”
In the Fall of 2019, the Blackhawks went 6-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play. Much like Mt. Pleasant's 2020 team in the spring, SCC was unable to play this fall due to the pandemic, but Warner has watched the team in previous seasons.
'Everything about how they play, I see in myself,” Warner said. 'I feel like I would be a great fit.”
Warner says she has been able to play a little club ball, but has been mostly working out from home to get ready for the new season. She also has been teaching her baby brother Beckham how to handle the ball. Warner says soccer is always present around the house, hence the name of its youngest member.
'It's a foot sport, so everything that is on the ground, we can pick back up,” Warner joked.
Warner will be studying Sociology with the goal of becoming a Guidance Counselor. She says she's ready for high school season to get back underway this spring.
'I'm very excited for the new freshman teams coming in, and the sophomores, since we didn't get to play with them last year,” Warner said. 'I'm very excited to see them play, and how well they fit in our team.”
