Warriors, Comets split in Keosauqua

KEOSAUQUA - The Van Buren and Cardinal basketball teams split games in SEISC South Division play on Thursday. The seventh-ranked Van Buren girls rolled 50-12, but the Comets had the last laugh with a 57-39 win in the boys game.
The Van Buren girls led 13-1 after one quarter, 22-6 at halftime and 39-7 after three quarters as Warrior head coach Matt Zietler moved to 2-0 against daughter and Cardinal head coach Makenzie Ostrander.
Taryn Scheuermann led the Warriors with 15 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots. Selena Sayre had eight points. Madison Bartholomew, Grace Davidson and Lexi Jirak had seven points apiece. Bartholomew also lead the team with seven assists. Chloe Davison finished with six points and seven steals.
Van Buren led 11-10 after one quarter and 26-21 at halftime of the boys game. Cardinal stormed back in the second half, winning the final two quarters by a combined 36-13.
Despite the loss, Jackson Manning scoerd 14 points for Van Buren and Tony Davidson had 13 points and 15 rebounds. Lane Davis scored seven. Jonah Heckenberg had three and Wyatt Mertens had two.
Stats are not yet available for the Cardinal teams.
