Warriors open volleyball season
WAYLAND ? The Van Buren volleyball team suffered through three losses Monday at the WACO Tournament in Wayland.
The Warriors fell to host WACO by a final score of 20-22, 21-15, 12-15 in the season opener. They then lost 7-21, 7-21 at the hands of Iowa Valley and dropped a 12-21, 18-21 contest to Columbus Junction.

?It was a disappointment for me because we?re better than Columbus Junction, and we?re way better than WACO,? said first-year head coach Matt Zeitler. ?It was us making mistakes. ... The other teams didn?t do anything right, we just did everything wrong.?
Stats were not available at press time, but Zeitler saved praise for senior leaders Hanna Haynes and Payten Hughes.
?Haynes did what we expected from her, and she was very dominant on the front line; She must?ve had 20 blocks,? Zeitler said. ?Hughes had an excellent day serving, as well.?
The Warriors will look to work their way into the win column in Week 2, with their home opener scheduled Tuesday against New London.
