ELDON — Van Buren County and Cardinal both had just three wins each when the two clashed on Monday night.
When all was said and done between the two rivals, it was the Warriors picking up their fourth victory of the season with a 72-57 victory over the Comets.
Through the first quarter, neither Van Buren or Cardinal would gain any sort of marginal lead.
The Warriors led by just five after one, 15-10.
Van Buren began to find its stride in the second though as the Warriors scored 29 points to the Comets 13 in the quarter.
At the break, the Warriors held a 44-23 lead.
Cardinal was able to close the gap through the third as they took the quarter, 18-14, to make it 58-41, but they wouldn’t have enough.
The Comets were able to take the fourth 16-14, but the Warrior lead proved to be too much to overcome.
Leading Van Buren in scoring was Jackson Manning with a game-high 32 points.
The win moves Van Buren County to 4-8 overall, while the loss drops Cardinal to 3-10.
