Warriors split doubleheader at Cardinal
The Van Buren boys? and girls? basketball teams traveled Monday to Eldon to face the rival Comets.
The Warrior boys, who defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by 30 on Saturday, won 84-45.
Thomas Fitzsimmons led Van Buren with 24 points. Garrett Saunders scored 19. Caleb Durflinger led Cardinal with 22 points.
Van Buren (15-2) will play Friday at Central Lee. Cardinal (7-9) is scheduled to host Harmony tonight.

The Cardinal girls? team defeated Van Buren 60-53. The Comets (7-9) extended Van Buren?s losing streak to six. The Warriors are now 6-11 on the season.
Cardinal jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter from which the Warriors could never recover.
Jessie McElderry led the Comets with 22 points and six rebounds. Danae Moses drained four three-pointers and scored 16 points.
?The girls got off to a quick start,? Cardinal coach Aaron Dose said. ?They played hard and we had some players step up at the end of the game and make big shots. It was a great win for us as we prepare for the postseason.?
Cardinal and Van Buren will meet again to open up the postseason on Feb. 15 in Keosauqua.
