Warriors take fourth in own tournament

WAYLAND - While many in the area wrestled with the snowfall Saturday, three area teams wrestled in the WACO Warrior Invitational.
WACO was fourth as the hosts while Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union was just two points behind in fifth. Mid-Prairie was 10th in the 14-team tournament.
'I thought we wrestled well overall,” WACO coach Seth Pugh said. Hopefully we can keep that momentum going into the postseason.
The C/W-MU Wildcats had a champion in Jarod Kadel, who remained undefeated in 27 bouts when he won at 138 pounds with a 9-5 decision.
Jalen Collins (27-5) of WACO placed second at 126.
'Kade McKinney made the finals again and he's getting better every match,” Pugh said.
McKinney (26-6) was second at 285 when he lost the championship match by a 4-2 decision.
'Robert Frazer made the finals for the second week in a row and he's wrestling as good as I've ever seen him wrestle,” Pugh said.
Frazer (20-13) lost the title match at 145 in Sudden Victory, 6-4.
'Larz Smith looked really good placing third,” Pugh said.
Smith (18-9) won his third-place match at 106 pounds by a 6-2 decision.
WACO got another third place when Jonah Clark (29-5) pinned his opponent in 1:37 at 120. Teammate Jaden Williams (23-12) was fourth at 138.
C/W-MU's Chance Malone (16-8) lost the title match at 220 by a 5-2 decision to place second. Teammate Chance Colby (20-7) was third at 182. Tucker Bright (15-7) placed fourth at 132 as did Jose Cerezo (18-9) at 152. Will Schwab (3-1) was fifth at 145. Lane Scorpil (10-4) took fifth at 106.
Mid-Prairie's Cael Garvey (22-13) won third with a pin in 3:47 at 160. Teammate David Murray (14-11) took third at 145 with a pin of C/W-MU's Felix Solis (13-12) with one second left in the first round. Solis was fourth. The Golden Hawks got a third place from Josh Wallington (20-14) at 195. Gannon Callahan (22-11) was fifth at 285. Colton Allen (19-10) was fifth at 182. Cory Allen (24-13) was fifth at 170.
