Washington archery teams take part in national tournament
The Washington archery team participated in the 2017 National Archery Bull?s-eye and 3D tournament in Louisville, Kentucky May 12, where a total of 13,482 archers took part in the Bull?s-eye and 3,123 were part of the 3D in the elementary, middle and high school divisions.
Washington scored a total of 3,342 points in the Bull?s-eye competition to finish in 51st place out of 248 teams.

The Washington archery team participated in the 2017 National Archery Bull?s-eye and 3D tournament in Louisville, Kentucky May 12, where a total of 13,482 archers took part in the Bull?s-eye and 3,123 were part of the 3D in the elementary, middle and high school divisions.
Washington scored a total of 3,342 points in the Bull?s-eye competition to finish in 51st place out of 248 teams.
At the event, a total of eight Iowa teams took part and Washington came in second place behind first-place Valley.
Samantha Mellinger and John Sands led the team with a 285 score. Mellinger placed 38th out of 641 ninth-grade girls and Sands finished in 76th out of 458 12-th grade boys.
The other individuals participating were Braeden Duwa and Bryan Martin, who both shot a 281.
Griffin Wood had a 280, Grace Shafer ended with a 279, Samatha Frana had a 277, as did Allison Rees.
Adam Todd finished with a 275, Curtis Stender, James Zabel and Anna Miller each had a 274.
Mitchell Driscoll and Cody Mellinger both had a 273. Cooper Reed ended with a 269. Kylee Porter had a 268. Maggie Morgan shot a 264.
Hunter Schultz had 262. Makynna Morgan shot 260, Lane Frana finished with a 252 and Sammy Jo Helfrich scored 240.
In the 3D competition, the team scored 1,660 to be placed 30th among 108 teams.
The Washington team was also third out of seven Iowa teams participating. Anamosa came in first and Mount Vernon came in second.
Samantha Mellinger led the team with a 286, for a fifth place finish out of 188 ninth-grade girls.
The other individuals participating were Sands , Zabel and Reed each had a 276.
Martin shot a 275, Shafer had a 271. Cody Mellinger ended with a 270.
Allison Rees had a 267. Miller had 266. Both Todd and Wood ended with a 265. Hunter Shultz had a 260.
Morgan had a 258, Lane Frana had a 257. Porter ended with a 256. Samantha Frana scored 251.
Duwa recorded a 249 on the score sheet, Stender finished with a 239. Makynna Morgan had a 237, Helfrich and Driscoll both shot a 232.
