KEOKUK — Washington boys basketball needed a win on Friday night to stay right at the top of the Southeast Conference standings and they did just that.
After a tough loss to non-conference foe Notre Dame on Monday, the Demons rebounded with a statement 69-45 victory over Keokuk.
The win keeps the Demons (6-5, 5-1) tied with Mt. Pleasant (9-3, 5-1) at the top of the SEC standings.
Washington came out with gumption in the first quarter against the Chiefs.
The Demons outscored the Chiefs a whopping 20-8 in the first quarter alone. That marked Washington’s best defensive quarter of the night.
Keokuk answered back in the second though, as the Chiefs took the scoring battle 15-9 to come within six, 29-23, at the break.
In the second half, Washington made sure to put it away.
By the end of the third quarter, the Demons had put together their best offensive outing of the night, tallying 24 points, while holding Keokuk to just 12.
After the 12 point differential in the third, Washington was able to put a bow on it with a 16-10 fourth.
For the Demons, Ethan Patterson finished with a game-high 31 points, five rebounds and six assists. The senior guard buried eight threes in the win.
Logan McDole ended with 14 points and seven assists. Avery Six tallied 10 points. Ajay Six ended with nine points. Conner Leyden had three and Aden Six two.
Washington will be back in action on Monday, as they play host to Anamosa (0-11). That game is set for 6:30 p.m.
