FORT MADISON — The Washington baseball team couldn’t right the ship in Fort Madison on Monday night.
The Demons lost two Southeast Conference road games, dropping the opener 10-5 and falling 10-1 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Fort Madison scored three first-inning runs, but Washington battled back with three of its own. The game was tied 3-3 until the bottom of the fourth, when Fort Madison put up six runs over the next two innings to pull away.
Conner Leyden was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the loss for Washington, but was tagged with the loss on the mound, giving up four runs over 4.2 innings. Ethan Peebler and Isaac Medrano each had a run batted in.
Washington trailed 3-0 going into the third inning in Game 2. The Demons scored a run in the top of the third to cut it down to 3-1, but the bottom half turned disastrous when Fort Madison knocked seven runners in.
The Bloodhounds plated one more in the fourth and Washington couldn’t respond in the top of the fifth, ending the game early via the 10-run rule.
Washington’s offense mustered just three hits in Game 2. Julian Parsons was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Easton Rugg and Blayze Richardson each had a hit, and Cole Vetter scored one run.
Washington had five different players see time on the mound. Peebler was tagged in the loss, giving up three runs. All of those runs were unearned.
Washington fell to 4-17 overall with the loss, and also 3-12 in conference play. Fort Madison is now 7-19 and 7-7.
