WASHINGTON — The Washington baseball and softball teams had a busy week, all at home, through Thursday’s games with the baseball team winning three of four and softball going 0-2 in a non-conference doubleheader, then sweeping Fort Madison in a Southeast Conference doubleheader.
Knoxville won twice. In the 4-1 loss, Ava Turner had two hits, and Cara Linnenkamp gave up four hits, a walk and struck out five. In the 16-3 loss, the Demons had a 3-0 lead but gave up six combined runs in the third and fourth, then 10 combined in the sixth and seventh innings. Kellie Dallmeyer had two hits and batted in two runs. Cameron Malichky batted in a run.
The baseball team played its second and third games of the season Wednesday, defeating Mediapolis, 8-7 and 8-6. Ethan Zieglowsky cracked a home run in the opener. Washington hit five doubles in the second game with Reece Mayer and Lucas Kroll batting in two runs apiece.
Thursday, the Demons split with Fort Madison, dropping the opener 7-4, then rallying for two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-3 win and Kole Williams pitched three shutout innings to get the win. Mayer went 3-for-4 in the loss.
