WASHINGTON — Washington and Mt. Pleasant boys soccer met for the second time this season on Monday night.
The Demons were winners in the first Southeast Conference clash between the two squads, 5-0, and in the second meeting, Washington topped Mt. Pleasant once again 5-1.
Through the first 40 minutes of action Washington seized control of the game and never looked back.
With some stellar offensive play from the Demon’s Emanuel Raymundo, Washington was able to quickly take command of the game.
Fifteen minutes into the contest, Washington freshman Edwin Cortes found the back of the net off an assist from Raymundo to take a 1-0 lead.
Just over six minutes later at the 21 minute mark, Raymundo delivered another pass toward goal that was finished off by Fredy Aguilar. The goal cemented what would be a two goal first half by the Demons.
Mt. Pleasant got some good looks, but couldn’t find an answer to get through the Demon defensive line and net a goal of its own. The Panthers would finish with 11 shots in the loss, six of which were on goal.
In the second, the Panthers were able to get on the board on a one-two punch from freshmen Noah Lange and Jackson Newman. Lange swung the ball to Newman for the Panther’s lone goal of the night.
Washington on the other hand continued to score.
Lane Schrock grabbed the Demon’s third goal of the evening off yet another assist from Raymundo in the 59th minute.
Raymundo got himself in the scoring column in the 69th minute off a pass from Will Gilchrist Brock. Raymundo added one more to put a seal on the game in the 75th minute.
Gilchrist Brock finished with five saves for the Demons.
Rudy Ruiz Motta tallied nine saves in the loss for Mt. Pleasant.
Washington improves to 6-2 on the season, while Mt. Pleasant drops to 3-5.
The Demons will go head-to-head with Fort Madison (9-0) on Thursday.
Mt. Pleasant will face off with Keokuk (2-6).
