It was a true conference battle on the soccer field Thursday, May 11, as Washington was host to the Mt. Pleasant.
It was close the entire game with the two teams vying to get the ball into the back of the net.
Mt. Pleasant would do that in the first half and took their 1-0 lead into half time.
Washington was able to come back and with with a goal by Anthony Torres, assisted by Caleb Suchan, and it was less than eight minutes into the second half.
Mt. Pleasant would then take the lead with a goal on a penalty kick.
The Demons didn't let up and tied it at 2-2 with a goal from the foot of Andres Gutierrez. The assist came from from John Dillon.
As legs grew tired, Washington attacked the goal in the first over time period and had many shots on goal, including one that skirted wide of the post by mere inches.
With less than a minute left in the game a hand ball was called on the Demons in the box, and with time expired on the clock the Panthers made the penalty kick to take the win, avoiding overtime penalty kicks to decide the game.
Thomas Zimmer had eight saves, putting his total for the season over 100, the most in the conference and seventh in Class 2A.
The next time the boys play is Tuesday, May 16, when they are host to the Highland Huskies where seniors and their parents will be recognized.
Action begins at 4:30 p.m. at the soccer field.
