WASHINGTON — Washington’s backs were against the wall on Friday night against Keokuk, but the Demons were able to mount an astounding comeback in the final quarter to pull out the win 55-53.
Through the opening half, it was the Chiefs who controlled.
Keokuk outscored Washington 16-11 in the first quarter and extended that lead with an 18-8 second frame, giving the Chiefs a 34-19 halftime lead.
However, things began to shift late in the third. Keokuk held an advantage as large as 17 in the third frame and by the end of the 24 minutes the Demons faced a 15 point deficit, 49-36.
However, Washington found a way. The Demons Drew Conrad and Nic Stone each hit threes to spark a 13-0 run by the Demons. Rajan Roth capped off the run with a runner with just two minutes to go to give Washington a 52-51 lead.
Some clutch shots at the charity stripe denied Keokuk a chance to tie it at the final whistle.
Conrad finished with a team-high 17 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Logan McDole followed with 11 points. Roth and Stone each added 10.
Washington started the season with back-to-back losses, but moves to 1-2 with the win.
