Tristin Westphal-Edwards walked out of the 15 team Mt. Vernon Invitational on Saturday as Washington?s lone champion. The team earned a very respectable fifth place finish, only a point and a half out of fourth, in a strong field.
Westphal-Edwards recorded two pins on his way to the finals where he squared off with Lisbon?s Bryce Werderman, who is ranked fourth in class 1A by The Predicament. Westphal-Edwards won a close 5-4 decision to claim the title.
?I?m very proud of Tristin for winning the tournament.,? said Washington Coach Brent Van Weelden. ?Several kids placed above their seed, that is a testament to their will to wrestle hard for six minutes.?
Mitchell Huisenga narrowly missed his own title, dropping a tight match in the finals. Garrett Ikerd avenged a loss from earlier in the season to Assumption?s Adam Laubenthal to take third with a 0:43 fall.
