Washington eighth-grade boys finish third at conference meet
The Washington eighth-grade boys? track and field team took third place at the Southeast Iowa Middle School Conference Meet in Mt. Pleasant on Monday.

The Washington eighth-grade boys? track and field team took third place at the Southeast Iowa Middle School Conference Meet in Mt. Pleasant on Monday.
Mt. Pleasant won the conference championship with 147 points, and Ottumwa was runner-up with 113 points. The Demons finished in third place with 103 points.
The Demons won conference titles in four events. Kyle Schindler won the 200-meter dash in 24.90 seconds, and he was also a member of two winning relays. Washington?s 4x200 relay team of Matt Reighard, Ryan Loy, Schindler and Drake Brezina took first place in 1:46.51, and the 4x400 relay team of Trey Van Weelden, Kyle Anderson, Schindler and Brezina won in 4:09.31.
Washington?s shuttle hurdle relay team of Anderson, Reighard, Loy and David Bradford won a conference title in 1:05.
Bradford also set a new eighth-grade school record in the 10-flight hurdles while taking second place in the race. His time of 15.31 seconds broke the record of 15.52 seconds set by Alex Gonzalez in 2011.
Austin Hazelett also nearly broke Gonzalez?s record, finishing third in the 10-flight hurdles in 15.57 seconds. Anderson came in third in the 200-meter hurdles in 28.58 seconds.
Washington?s 4x100 relay team of Bryce Craff, Reighard, Noah Bruns and Brezina finished third in 51.78 seconds, and the quartet of Van Weelden, Jake Wheeler, Bruns and Dakota Kron came in third in the 1,600 medley relay in 4:31.58. The 4x800 relay team of Jesus Nunez, Owen Horak, Bryce Sinn and David Mares was third in 10:18, and the 800 medley relay team of Tanner Coleman, Van Weelden, Loy and Hazelett finished fifth in 1:57.43.
Bradford and Bruns both cleared 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump competition, with Bradford finishing fourth and Bruns sixth. Carlton Skubal took fourth place in the shot put competition with a throw of 36 feet, 11 inches, and he was sixth in the discus competition with a toss of 99 feet, 2 inches.
Kron took fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:30.64. Wheeler finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:48.90, and Sinn was sixth in 5:57.25.
