Washington eighth-grade girls finish fourth at Fort Madison
The Washington eighth-grade girls? track and field team finished fourth at the Fort Madison Invitational on April 29.
Fairfield won the meet with 129 points, and Mt. Pleasant was second with 117 points. Edward Stone finished third with 89 points, and the Demons had 71 points, one ahead of fifth-place Keokuk.

The Washington eighth-grade girls? track and field team finished fourth at the Fort Madison Invitational on April 29.
Fairfield won the meet with 129 points, and Mt. Pleasant was second with 117 points. Edward Stone finished third with 89 points, and the Demons had 71 points, one ahead of fifth-place Keokuk.
The Demons did not win any events. Mariah Howard took second place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:53.64, and teammate Rose Smith finished fifth in 6:20.29. Both were members of Washington?s second-place 1,600 medley relay. The quartet of Alexis Turner, Olivia Postl, Smith and Howard finished second in 5:13.22.
Washington?s shuttle hurdle relay team of Lexi Evans, Makenzi Marek, Madysen Hinrichsen and Jessie Buchholz took third place in 1:19.19, and the quartet of Postl, Smith, Hinrichsen and Emily Hora finished third in the 4x400 relay in 5:08.
Buchholz took third place in the 200-meter hurdles in 32.48 seconds, and Bella Giardino came in fifth in the 10-flight hurdles in 18.91 seconds.
Daniela Diaz took third place in the shot put competition with a throw of 26 feet, 5 inches, and teammate Brenna Weidman was sixth with a toss of 24 feet, 7 inches. Marek finished fourth in the long jump competition with a leap of 14 feet, 1.75 inches, and Postl?s jump of 13 feet, 10.5 inches was good for fifth place. Evans cleared 4 feet, 3 inches to take fifth place in the high jump competition.
Hora finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.53 seconds, and Lexi Redlinger was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 31.03 seconds. Howard came in fourth in the 800-meter run in 3:01.31.
Washington?s 4x200 relay team of Giardino, Turner, Redlinger and Evans took fourth place in 2:05.31, and the quartet of Giardino, Redlinger, Turner and Buchholz finished fifth in the 4x100 relay in 58.42 seconds.
