Washington eighth-grade girls finish sixth at conference meet
The Washington eighth-grade girls? track and field team closed its season with a sixth-place finish at the Southeast Iowa Middle School meet in Fort Madison on May 6.
Fairfield scored 118 points to win the conference championship, and Mt. Pleasant was second with 109 points. The Demons scored 44 points to finish sixth out of eight teams.

The Washington eighth-grade girls? track and field team closed its season with a sixth-place finish at the Southeast Iowa Middle School meet in Fort Madison on May 6.
Fairfield scored 118 points to win the conference championship, and Mt. Pleasant was second with 109 points. The Demons scored 44 points to finish sixth out of eight teams.
Mariah Howard won the conference title in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 5:33.65. Howard also finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:49.62.
Jessie Buchholz took third place in the 200-meter hurdles in 31.56 seconds, and she anchored the Demons? shuttle hurdle relay, which also included Lexi Evans, Madysen Hinrichsen and Makenzi Marek, to a third-place finish in 1:18.90.
Marek took fourth place in the long jump competition with a leap of 14 feet, 2 inches, and Brenna Weidman finished fifth in the shot put competition with a throw of 23 feet, 8 inches.
Emily Hora finished fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.02 seconds, and she came in sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:14.57. Hora also anchored Washington?s 4x400 relay, which included Alexis Turner, Rose Smith and Hinrichsen, to a fourth-place finish in 5:03.59.
Washington?s 4x200 relay team of Bella Giardino, Turner, Lexi Redlinger and Evans finished fifth in 2:09.73, and the quartet of Giardino, Redlinger, Olivia Postl and Buchholz came in sixth in the 4x100 relay in 58.26 seconds.
