AMES — The Washington boys golf team had hopes of returning home with a state championship after two days and 36 holes of golf at the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s 3A State Golf Championships.
The Demons only got through one day of action and 18 holes at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames though before the tournament was called due to weather.
Washington sat with a 321 after the first day, meaning the Demons were forced to settle for the fifth place finish in the tournament.
The Demons were 17 strokes behind 2024 3A champion ADM and just three shots behind fourth place Gilbert.
Leading the Demons was defending 3A individual champion Roman Roth. The senior closed out his career with nearly another championship, but came just five strokes off the lead. Roth finished the tournament tied for third with a 71.
Luke Beenblossom followed Roth with an 82. Teague Mayer shot an 89. Drew Conrad finished with an 83. Rajan Roth and Carson Brown ended with 85 and 90 respectively.
