DAVENPORT — Washington volleyball’s season came to an end on Tuesday night, as the Demons were upended by the Knights of Davenport Assumption.
It was a clean sweep for the No. 4 Knights as they took the victory after three sets, 25-9, 25-12 and 25-14.
The Demons gave it everything they had and improved as the night went on, but the defending Class 3A state champions were just too much.
On the night, Leighton Messinger finished with a team-high six kills. Taylor Miksch followed with four.
Lauren Hinrichsen tallied a high of seven assists. Remy Messinger ended with five.
Defensively, Leighton Messinger notched nine digs. Ella Greiner followed with seven, while Ruby Witthoft and Miksch both had six.
Leighton Messinger had the Demons lone ace on the night.
Despite the loss, it was a record season for the Demons.
Washington posted its best winning percentage and most wins since 2007, finishing 2023 with a 17-18 record. The Demons notched 14 wins in 2014.
With the completion of the season, Washington volleyball says goodbye to six seniors, Rylee Libe, Jacey Berg, Caitlin Kroll, Maci Williams, Remy Messinger and Sadie Van Der Molen.
Assumption moves on to play Fairfield in the Class 3A Region 8 semifinal.
