The Washington boys basketball team dropped its second Southeast Conference game in a row Friday night. The Demons fell 70-50 at the hands of Keokuk, dropping its SEC record to 3-3.
A 24-11 surge in the third quarter gave Keokuk — which improved to 6-0 in the SEC — a lead that it would protect in the fourth quarter. Washington kept pace with the conference’s top side and trailed by just one at halftime after taking a 17-16 lead into the second quarter.
The Demons shot 43.8% from the field but were held to just 4 of 19 from 3-point range in the loss. They tallied seven assists and committed nine turnovers and had just three bench points, which were scored by freshman Bryer Sobaski.
Rajan Roth led Washington with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds and had one assist and two steals.
Kael Williams finished with 13 points on just eight shots. He added two rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Nic Stone was the only other Washington player in double figures at 12 points. He had two of the team’s nine steals and grabbed a pair of rebounds. Drew Conrad scored the Demons other eight points and dished out four assists.
The loss leaves Washington in third place in the SEC behind 5-1 Burlington and 6-0 Keokuk. The Demons will look to get back in the win column after two straight defeats when they face Tipton on Monday.
Washington will return to SEC play with a home game against Fairfield on Friday. The game will be streamed on the Southeast Iowa Live YouTube and Facebook pages.
Washington’s game against Tipton tipped off before press time Monday.
