WASHINGTON -- For the second straight year, Washington football will open the season against the Indians of Oskaloosa.
The Demons will be hoping for a little different outcome this time around, as the Indians slipped past with a 28-14 win just a year ago.
In 2023, Washington watched a first quarter lead slip out of reach after a scoreless second and third frame. Oskaloosa put 22 points on the board in that span to put it out of reach.
The good news for Washington? It brings back nearly every weapon on offense from a year ago.
Starting quarterback Logan McDole, leading rusher in Kael Williams and leading receiver are all back for the Demons. Those three scored 17 of the Demons’ 20 touchdowns last fall.
The offensive line and defensive line will have a variety of new faces, but it’s still looking good for the Demons.
Oskaloosa is in the same boat.
A team that was comprised of an abundance of underclassmen is now upperclassmen heavy.
Junior’s Kayne Boender and AJ Walker led the Indians in passing and rushing respectively last season. The pair combined for all 22 of the Indians offensive touchdowns last season.
The Indians also bring back four of their top five receivers and all five of their leading tacklers.
Come Friday night, it’s sure to be another down to the wire finish between the two squads.
The game is set to begin at 7:30 at Washington Case Field on Friday.
