WASHINGTON — It’s been a tough couple of weeks on the gridiron for Washington football.
After a 2-0 start to begin the season, the Demons have dropped two straight in losses to Clear Creek-Amana and Fort Madison.
This week, Washington (2-2) will look to get back in the win column with a matchup against Grinnell (1-3) on Homecoming.
Washington put together two all around outings in its first two games of the season with a 21-14 victory over Burlington and a 54-20 win over Mt. Pleasant.
As of late, the Demons defense has done well to keep them in the game, but Washington hasn’t been able to put points on the board, falling to Clear Creek-Amana 31-6 and Fort Madison 37-7. They will look to change that on Friday night.
Ethan Patterson heads the Washington offense. Patterson has thrown for 254 yards and four touchdowns.
Leading the Demons in rushing is Tayven Stuart with 435 yards and seven touchdowns. Patterson follows with 207 yards rushing. Jude Brown has 133 rushing yards and has found the end zone twice.
Brown leads in the receiving column as well, tallying 98 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. Evan Van Der Molen has 56 yards on the year with five receptions and a touchdown. Luke Beenblossom follows with 54 yards and a touchdown. Stuart has 46 yards receiving and a touchdown as well.
James Strabala leads the Demons on the defensive end with 36 total tackles, 21 of which are solo. Casen Evans follows Strabala with 26.5 tackles.
Grinnell’s offensive attack is led by Brady Coffman. At quarterback, Coffman has thrown for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
On the ground, Kinnick Johnson has 195 yards rushing and one touchdown. Coffman follows with 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Carson Penyich leads the Tigers in receiving with 198 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions. Braden Johnson has five catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Tryston Stark has 23.5 tackles for Grinnell.
Not only will Washington look to get back on the winning track, the Demons also will look to end a 3-0 streak against the Tigers.
Grinnell has gotten the better of the Demons in the two’s three career meetings, winning last year 35-14 and the other victories coming back in 2010 and 2011.
Friday night’s game is set to begin at 7:30 at Washington’s Case Field.
