GRINNELL — Washington had its hands full on Friday night, as the Demons had to take on a tough Grinnell squad on the road in the district opener. Washington fell to 1-4 on the season with a 35-14 loss.
The Demons scored just twice in the first half. After going down 14-0, Ethan Patterson ran a short touchdown himself with eight minutes left in the second quarter and then found John Prochaska on a 43-yard strike with 3:44 to go before halftime.
The Tigers stole momentum right back just over one minute later on a 49-yard touchdown run. At the half, the Demons trailed 21-14.
Unfortunately for Washington, the Demon offense couldn’t recapture any of the second quarter magic. Grinnell scored twice in the third quarter and held on for a three-touchdown victory.
Washington is now 1-4 overall. The Demons have dropped their last three games.
Washington has a chance to rattle off the cobwebs this Friday night, but they’ll have another tough matchup, as the Demons head to No. 4 Solon for their second district game of the year.
