BURLINGTON — Washington football has had a terrific start to the season.
The Demons grabbed their second straight win on Friday night with a 14-6 victory over Burlington on the road.
Washington couldn’t have asked for a much better start, setting the tone with a 11 play 73 yard opening drive.
With their backs against the wall on 4th and 10, Washington quarterback Logan McDole delivered. McDole rolled out right and put the ball right on the numbers to wideout Jayfred Espinosa for a 29-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring.
That touchdown was the only score through the first half as the Demons led 7-0 at the break.
In the third, Washington extended it lead thanks to a fumble recovery from Keider Gomez Valdez and another stellar drive from the offense.
Washington went 40 yards down the field and McDole capped off the drive with a 7-yard scamper across the goal line to make it 14-0.
Burlington didn’t go down easy though.
After Washington turned the ball over on downs, the Grayhound’s Darius Shealey took it 60 yards to the house on their next possession.
Burlington had two more chances, but a fourth down score was negated by a penalty and a Washington defensive stand sealed the win for the Demons.
McDole completed 8-of-13 passes for 89 yards. Espinosa lead the receivers with 53 yards. Mason Morgan had 33 yards as well.
McDole was also the Demons’ leading rusher with 61 yards.
Washington will look for a 3-0 start when they take on Fairfield at home on Friday.
