WASHINGTON — Washington boys basketball played its final home game of the regular season on Friday night and got a little revenge from an earlier loss.
The Demons defeated Burlington 65-58 in the Southeast Conference matchup. It’s a bounce back win for Washington, who lost to Burlington on its home court in the pairs first meeting 59-54.
Burlington took a hold of the game early, but Washington put together a big run to end the first period on top. The Demons finished the first quarter on an 11-2 run to put them up 16-13 after the first quarter.
The two teams continued to battle through the second quarter as Washington only built upon its lead before a 13-3 spurt by the Grayhounds cut the Demon lead to 33-31 at the half.
In the third, Washington couldn’t pull away. The two squads were neck and neck, knotted at 46-46 before the Demon’s Luke Schiebel’s layin gave Washington a two point cushion, 48-46, heading into the fourth.
To start the fourth quarter, the Demons’ 14-6 run ended up being the push they needed. With just two minutes to play, the Demons built up a double digit advantage and Burlington wasn’t able to get back into it.
Logan McDole finished with 13 points for Washington. Nic Stone added 12 points, while Conner Leyden scored 11.
Washington improves to 9-11 on the season and is 5-5 in Southeast Conference action. The Demons will take on Mount Vernon in their next matchup.
