Washington girls basketball falls twice

KEOKUK — First quarter woes doomed the Washington girls basketball team this weekend. The Demons suffered slow starts in two-straight losses, a Southeast Conference defeat on Friday, and a non-conference loss on Saturday.
On Friday, the Demons traveled to Keokuk. A 15-4 deficit after the first quarter led to a 47-28 defeat. One day later, a 22-2 first quarter run by Oskaloosa pushed the Indians to a 53-31 win.
Washington spread the points out on Friday night in Keokuk. Kendall Hinrichsen scored six points in the loss. Adalyn Long, Maci Williams and Lauren Hinrichsen each had four.
Alex Murphy finished with three points and nine rebounds against Keokuk. Addison Miller scored three points. Makenna Conrad and Leighton Messinger each scored two.
On Saturday, Kaylin Long tallied 10 points to lead the Demons. Adalyn Long and Messinger each had five points and six rebounds. Murphy finished with four points and six rebounds. Williams and Taylor Miksch scored two each. Kendall Hinrichsen, Lauren Hinrichsen and Miller all scored one.
Washington is now 6-6 overall and 3-3 in SEC play. The Demons host Anamosa on Monday night and Keokuk on Tuesday.
