WASHINGTON — It took until Game 5 of the 2021-22 high school basketball season, but the Washington girls have notched their first win.
On Friday night, the Demons earned a Southeast Conference win over visiting Burlington, bumping the Grayhounds 49-30.
The game was tight in the first half. Washington led 11-7 after one quarter and held a 26-17 halftime advantage.
The Demons really started to pull away in the third quarter. Washington outscored Burlington 17-4 in the third to bust the game wide-open.
In all, Washington allowed just 13 points in the fourth quarter. The Demons not only scored a season high on offense, but allowed a season low on defense.
Washington had an extremely balanced day scoring. Seven different Demons scored with nobody hitting double digits.
Kaylin Long flirted with a double-double, scoring nine points and pulling down nine rebounds. Lauren Hinrichsen scored nine points as well to co-lead the team.
Makenna Conrad scored eight points for the Demons. Alex Murphy had seven points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Elyse Hunt scored seven points of her own, and both Taylor Bartholomew and Maci Williams finished with four points.
Washington is now 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. They’ll travel to Sigourney on Monday.
