Washington girls, Fairfield boys take Ekstrand Relays

WAYLAND — WACO hosted the Ekstand Relays last Thursday and Union area teams showed out.
In the boys class A, Fairfield took the top spot with 166 points. Washington followed two spots back with 95 points for third.
For the girls A Class, Washington was the highest finisher with 150 points. Fairfield finished in fifth with 64 points.
Small schools representing in girls Class B, were WACO, Highland, Winfield-Mt. Union, Hillcrest Academy and New London.
For the boys, WACO, Winfield, New London and Highland were all featured.
Fairfield had an abundance of winners on the day.
Aiden Lyons posted the top time in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 11.35 and 22.86.
Kaidyn Mickels took the 800-meter crown with a time of 2:04.96.
In discus, Nick Kaska was a winner with a toss of 122 feet and 7 inches.
The Trojans won the 4x400 with Dallan Rippey, Gavin VanVeen, Mickels and Dylan Hunter at the helm. The quartet ran a 3:41.31 for first.
Ben Boatright, Rippey, Mickels and VanVeen won the 4x800 too with a time of 8:43.50.
In the sprint medley, Connor Lyons, Tallon Bates, Lyons and Hunter Cecchini won with a 1:42.62.
Aidan Kreuter, Kevin Dorothy, Hunter and Dylan Adam were winners with a time of 4:01.86.
For Washington, Logan McDole took the 400-meter dash. McDole ran a 55.35 for first.
Micah Rees won the 3200-meter in 10:16.42.
In the 4x100, Ethan Zieglowsky, Austin Rebling, Clayton Streeter and Travis Leyden were winners, running a 46.91.
The Demons also won the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle with Tayven Stuart, James Strabala, Mason Morgan and Rebling finish in 1:06.75 for first.
On the girls side, Washington had a stellar performance.
Rachel Sands won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.44.
Abigail Kleese was a winner in the 800-meter, finishing in a time of 2:33.59.
In the 1500, Lauren Horak took the stop spot with in 5:32.11.
Quincy Griffis added another win for Washington in the 3000-meter. Griffis ran a 12.06.68.
Ally Rees was victorious in discus with a toss of 96 feet, nine inches.
Washington’s Kendall Hinrichsen, Kleese, Horak and Grace Voss were the fastest in the 4x800. The group posted a time of 10:31.37.
Nevaeh Brown, Sands, Eden Levetzow and Kleese won the distance medley clocking a 4:39.10.
Fairfield didn’t have a win on the day.
Union area athletes in Class B had a good outing.
For WACO, Ellah Kissell won the 200-meter in 28.59.
The Warrior’s MacKenzie Vradenburg, Halle Shelman, Amy Moran and Kissell posted the top time in the 4x100, 54.14. The four also finished first in the 4x200 in 1:55.93.
Mackenzie McFarland was the fastest in the 100-meter dash for Highland, finishing in 13.63.
Highland’s Sarah Burton jumped 16 feet, 6 inches for the top spot in long jump.
Jessica Kraus threw the discus 104 feet for first in the event.
Leah Bontrager picked up a win for Hillcrest in the 800-meter. She posted a time of 2:32.73 for first.
Malia Yoder was a winner in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches.
Winfield grabbed a victory in the 100-meter hurdles with Keetyn Townsley finishing in 17.12.
Morgan Grelk, Kayreanna Sharar, Josie Nelson and Townsley took the 4x100 shuttle hurdle in 1:14.37.
For the boys, Highland’s Devin Lovetinsky won shot throwing 44 feet, 7.75 inches.
Tyler Thompson, Brenton Bonebrake, Logan Bonebrake and Connor Grinstead won the 4x200 with a time of 1:36.65. The group also took the 4x100 in 46.10.
Winfield-Mt. Union’s Cam Buffington topped the long jump in 19 feet, 2 inches.
Buffington was a winner in the 100-meter dash as well, posting a 11.62.
Gabriel Hemsworth added another win for the Wovles in the 400-meter hurdles. Hemsworth finished in 57.51.
Braden Spain was a winner in high jump for WACO. Spain lept 5 feet, 10 inches.
Simeon Reichenbach won the 110-meter hurdles, clocking 15.41.
Zach Schmitz, Mason Miller, Isaac Oswald and Reichenbach won the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle in 1:04.40.
Seth Bailey bested the field in the 3200-meter with a 9:57.38 for New London
Rylan Martin topped the 400-meter dash with a 52.95.
Josh Catala won the 200-meter in 22.75.
New London also got a win from Rylan Martin, Michael Raines, Alexander Julian and Seth Bailey in the 4x400, running a time of 3:45.70 for first.
