The Washington girls golf team traveled to Panora Monday, May 8, to join eight other teams in the Waukee Invitational meet. The Demon girls ended the day in fourth place.
?Washington was the only 4A school in the invite,? says coach Leonard Kull.
?There are some storied schools and we played on a tough course but it was nice to bounce back from the previous meet.?
For the individual scores, Sarah Nacos was meet medalist with a 75.
?She bounced back from The Preserve at Moravia last week,? Kull says.
?She was disappointed after that but really got to work. She found the solution to her problem.
?She played very well. To emphasize it, she played against the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 ranked players in Class 5A.
?She has played against them her whole career and she should be really complimented on her effort.?
Megan Strabala shot a 93 in the invitational.
Allison Vogel had a 101. ?She was a little disappointed she didn?t do better,? Kull says, ?but shot her average.?
Carly Burlingame had a 111, Emily Waite shot a 129 and Kaitlin Mitchell had a 139.
The goal of going was to play on a tough course against good competition and both things came to pass,? Kull says of the invitational.
The girls next compete in a triangular against Mt. Pleasant and Williamsburg Friday, May 12.
?It was originally going to be a nine-hole event, but it will be an 18-hole because some of them were canceled earlier in the year,? Kull says. ?It will be a good warm-up for Monday.?
The triangular at Mt. Pleasant starts at 12 p.m. Friday with the conference tournament happening at the Walton Golf Course in Fairfield Monday, May 15, at 9 a.m.
