WASHINGTON — The Washington girls soccer team is unbeaten no more after a nail-biting loss to Fort Madison on Monday. The Bloodhounds knocked off the Demons 4-1 in penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 draw.
The Demons and Bloodhounds both scored once in the first half. The teams were at a deadlock in the second half and overtime, leading to the penalties.
Fort Madison’s win catapulted the Bloodhounds (1-0 in SEC play) to the top of the SEC girls standings. They and Burlington (1-0) are the only unbeaten teams left in league play.
Washington is now 4-1 on the year and 1-1 in SEC play. They will play at Fairfield on Thursday.
