The Washington girls basketball team won just three games all of last season. Five games into the 2022-23 campaign, the Demons are already above that mark.
Washington had to fight for two wins this weekend, but the Demons pulled out both. The Demons stayed undefeated in Southeast Conference play with a 47-41 win over Burlington on Friday night, and followed that with a 74-70 non-conference win over Davis County on Saturday.
The Demons’ win over Burlington was the seventh in a row for Washington in the series. Five of those wins have come by eight points or less.
In the win over Burlington, Washington out-rebounded the Grayhounds 51-35. The Demons finished with 13 assists, compared to Burlington’s six.
Washington is not only 4-1 overall, but also 2-0 in SEC play. That puts them in a tie with Fort Madison for first place in the league.
The Demons will next be in action at home on Friday night when they welcome in rival Mt. Pleasant (2-4, 1-1) for a conference clash.
