Washington girls pull away from Mt. Pleasant
Demons large first half run leads to victory over Panthers

WASHINGTON — Washington girls basketball picked up its fourth Southeast Conference victory on Friday night with a 58-26 win over Mt. Pleasant.
What started as a close game through the first quarter, quickly turned into a large Washington advantage through the second quarter and into halftime.
The Panthers and Demons were neck and neck through one quarter, but everything changed when Washington bombarded Mt. Pleasant with a 21-1 run to the end of the first half.
With the run, Washington swung the game into its favor making it a 31-10 ball game at the half.
They only continued to tack it on in the second half. Through the first five minutes of the third period, the Panthers scored just two points.
On the contrary, the Demons scored 13 in that span with back-to-back threes from Lauren Hinrichsen and Reagan Miller closing the run to give Washington a 44-12 lead.
Mt. Pleasant outscored Washington 7-5 in the final three minutes, but the Demons’ lead sat at 49-19 heading into the final frame.
The final quarter narrowly went to the Demons as well, 9-7.
Adalyn Long finished with a game-high 16 points for Washington. Kendall Hinrichsen scored 11 points, while Lauren Hinrichsen added seven.
For Mt. Pleasant, Abby Carthey finished with 10. Abigail Shelangoski scored seven and Kynlee White six. Paityn Ensminger ended with three points and 13 rebounds as well.
With the win, Washington improves to 6-12 and 4-4 in SEC play. Mt. Pleasant moves to 3-13 and 1-7 in conference action.
