FAIRFIELD ? The Washington Demon girls? soccer team was defeated by host Fairfield Thursday 12-0.
Fairfield earned the outright Southeast Conference title with the win.
The contest was finished at halftime due to the mercy rule. There were plenty of bright spots for Washington.
Freshman forward Lupita De La Rosa stood out with her hustle and delivering a 15-yard blast which nearly found the back of the net.
De La Rosa had sneaked by Fairfield?s vaunted defense, no easy task.
?I was really excited about that shot,? De La Rosa said.
?For me, as a freshman, this was my third time ever playing forward and Fairfield is a very good team.
?It was an exciting moment for me. They are tough to get a good shot on so I was very excited. I was thinking, ?OK, I can do this.??
Among other Demons, Quinn Buckingham, Andrea Pingol, Erika Salgado Hernandez, Sierra Stout, Angel-Jessica Najera Perez and Isabel Canchola also made some fine plays during the contest, battling hard and winning possession.
?We have so much potential going into next year,? De La Rosa said.
?Right now, we?re struggling. But if we keep doing what we?re doing, we?ll progress.
?We have very good coaches, too. If we keep working hard, we are going to be winning more games.?
