The Washington girls soccer team faced Fort Madison Friday, April 21, where the game ended in a 0-8 loss for the Demons.
Fort Madison?s first goal came 15 minutes into the game followed by their second one six minutes later.
Both teams would display good ball control on the field until Fort Madison took the ball near the net and scored another goal with a little more than 10 minutes left in the first half.
It was two back-to-back goals for Fort Madison coming at the 31:30 and 31:45 mark with the sixth goal of the first half notched with a little more than five minutes left of play.
After the break, Washington would make try and rally to get a point, but many blocks hampered their efforts.
Fort Madison snuck the ball past goalie Jessica Hora after 12 minutes of play and would put up their final point with 21:29 left in the game, to end the scoring.
Despite the loss, coach Kyle Collins likes to see the good footwork the girls displayed on the field.
?The score did not reflect how they played on the field, really,? he says.
?It was a totally different team than what it has been the past few games.
?We were down a few players as well. With some of them hurt, others had to step up and it looked like they?ve been playing the whole season. It was awesome.?
Even though Fort Madison was able to score eight times, keeper Jessica Hora did have numerous blocks in the game and Collins likes to see that.
?She had some great saves and there are some other saves we need to work on, but the ones she saved, she did an awesome job with.?
The girls are host to Mt. Pleasant today, April 24. What is Collins expecting?
?I hope we keep the same momentum and adding on to the things from practice and improve on them each game.
?We don?t try to make a totally different team overnight. Each game we take baby steps and by the end of the year, we have a good, consistent team. As long as we are improving, it?s a win for them.?
The game against Mt. Pleasant starts at 4:30 p.m. on the soccer field at the high school.
