MT. PLEASANT ? The Washington girls? soccer season came to an end in Mt. Pleasant Thursday night, May 25, in the first round of the regional tournament.
The Demons fell, 10-0, to the Panthers, who led 6-0 at halftime and added four more to end the game early in the second half.
The young Demon team has 13 freshman and just three seniors.
Head coach Kyle Collins said this season was a growing year for the young squad.
?For sure we?ve got a young team (with) a lot of freshmen,? Collins said.
?From the beginning of the season to now is literally a flip-flop team. Everybody is improving and the seniors really helped out on that.?
The one big positive for Washington was a strong outing from freshman keeper Olivia Pacha in net.
?She used an aggressive style of play to rob the Panthers of goal after goal, despite being faced with many one-on-goalie situations.
?This is her second game playing full time,? Collins said.
?She?s a freshman (and) she tore it up. She just had to get a little confidence, I think.?
Among the seniors that the Demons will lose to graduation is Jessie Buchholz, who scored over half the Demons? goals this season.
Three underclassmen scored goals this season for Washington.
Brandi Merano, Bailey Bryant and Joanna Segura, all freshmen, will be the leading returning scorers next season.
With the win, Mt. Pleasant moves on to play top-seeded Pella on the road Tuesday, May 30, at 6 p.m.
