?It was a great weekend for the Washington girls track team,? said coach Stefanie Tschantz. ?All of the girls really ran well.?
Ashley Telleen ran one of her fastest times in the 400-meter hurdles and came out with a 14th-place finish. Her time was 1:08.71.
?It was fun to see three girls from our conference all in the same heat,? Tschantz said.
?Ashley got out to a great start and was leading her heat for the first 200-meters of the race; she clipped a hurdle and that threw her off a little but she was able to bounce back and run a great race.?
The 4x200-meter relay team consisted of of Telleen, Isabel Bailey, Leah Marek and Jenah Greiner.
?Ashley led off the 4x2 for the first time and was able to get the relay off to a great start,? Tschantz said.
?Isabel had her fastest split of the season and we were sitting second in our heat for the first two handoffs.
?Leah had some hip issues and [it] was really bothering her while she was running Friday, but she was still able to run a good leg.
?Jenah was our anchor and she did a nice job of trying to close in on the pack. They all ran a great race.
?With three sophomores and one freshman on that relay I'm really excited to see what they will do next year.?
The girls finished the event with a time of 1:52.14, in 21st place.
During the preliminary 100-meter dash event Thursday, May 18, Hannah Anderson ended up setting a new school record.
?Hannah setting a new school record in the prelims of the 100 was definitely a highlight of the meet,? Tschantz said.
?We were a little worried she might sit in her blocks since she jumped the gun in the 200 but she did a great job of bouncing back and winning her heat in the 100.
?She was sitting fifth after prelims and was able to come back Saturday and run a great race, she had another great start and was sitting second for most of the race before a few girls closed in the last few meters.
?For her to finish fourth (with a time of 12.45) in the 100 as a freshman is a huge accomplishment; I can't wait to see what she will accomplish over the next few years.
?She also had an outstanding performance in long jump Friday, May 19,? Tschantz added.
?She jumped 17 feet 9 3/4 inches in the prelims and was sitting first for most of the competition.?
That distance gave her a second-place finish after Friday?s action.
?One girl just happened to jump a huge personal record to pass Hannah by half an inch,? Tschantz said.
?I am so proud of her and everything she has accomplished this season.
?Hannah has been battling some hip issues this past month so she really hasn't been able to practice her long jump much since Drake, so for her to come out and jump was one of her best jumps this season. It was a great way for her to end her season.
?For a freshman to come home with two state medals is a huge accomplishment.
?It has a been a great season,? she said.
