PELLA — Washington girls basketball played its first of two games this week on Tuesday night.
The Demons made the trip over to Pella for a non-conference bout with the Dutch.
Washington did a nice job on the defensive end, but struggled to put the ball in the basketball in all four quarters.
The Dutch held the Demons to single digits in each quarter, while posting double digits themselves in three out of the four.
Washington trailed by just five after the first period, 10-5, but a big second quarter by the Dutch only extended their lead.
Both squads posted their best numbers of the evening in the second period, but it was Pella outscoring Washington 18-6 to make it 28-11 at the half.
The Demons’ scoring woes continued into the third as they were held to just two points through eight minutes of action.
Meanwhile, the Dutch added 12 more to their total in the third. Heading into the fourth, Washington trailed 40-13.
Washington could never make up the difference as Pella took the fourth 9-5.
With the loss the Demons drop to 2-3 in the early season. Washington will be back in action on Friday against Fairfield (0-4).
