Washington golf advances to districts with second place finish at sectionals
Mt. Pleasant ends season with seventh overall finish

WASHINGTION — Washington hosted a Class 3A Iowa High School Athletic Association Sectional Tournament on Wednesday morning.
The Demons were joined by fellow Union area team Mt. Pleasant as well as six other competitors.
Solon, West Liberty, Burlington Notre Dame, Clear Creek Amana, Fort Madison and Keokuk also took part.
For Washington, the day ended with not only the chance at another district title, but also a state tournament berth when they head to Pin Oak Links in Manchester on Monday.
Washington shot a 316 in the sectional tournament, good enough for second overall. Solon took the tournament team title with a 309.
Mt. Pleasant’s season ends with a seventh-place finish in the tournament. The Panthers shot a 365 on the day.
For Washington, Rajan Roth led the way with a third overall finish, carding a 74. Carson Brown and Drew Conrad both notched top 10 finishes with 78s.
Conner Leyden tallied an 86, Cole Vetter finished with an 89 and Kaleb Orr a 91.
Mt. Pleasant was paced by Brody Engle, who ended with an 89. Merrick Lamm and Logan Calhoun both totaled 91s. J.C. Sitar, Samuel Frary and Alek Barton rounded out the Panthers’ lineup with 94, 96 and 98 respectively.
Washington will square off with West Delaware, Williamsburg, Solon, Keokuk, West Liberty, Burlington Notre Dame, Mount Vernon, Marion and Decorah in the 3A district tournament.
