MEDIAPOLIS — The Washington basketball teams hit the road on Tuesday night to take on Mediapolis in a non-conference girl-boy doubleheader. Neither Demon squad could get out of Mepo with a win.
The Demon girls lost a fourth-quarter lead and faltered 48-17 against the undefeated Bullettes. The Demon boys fell 62-43.
The Demon girls threatened to end Mediapolis’ undefeated start when Washington took a 6-5 lead after one quarter and a 19-16 advantage into halftime.
The Bullettes got within one by the end of the third quarter, now just trailing 31-30, and Washington’s defense couldn’t stop Mediapolis from building off that momentum in the fourth. The Demon girls were outscored 18-6 over the final eight minutes.
The Washington boys, coming off a huge comeback win at Keokuk on Friday night, couldn’t keep the good times rolling against a tough Bulldog squad.
Mediapolis led the boys’ game 16-8 after one quarter, 37-22 at halftime and 50-37 after three quarters. Washington mustered just six points in the fourth.
The Demon girls fell to 1-4 overall with the loss. The boys are now 1-3. Both teams will be in Fairfield on Friday night.
