Washington leads way on All-Union girls basketball list
Demons’ Long captains yearly list, Rugg takes coaches honor

Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Washington girls basketball had plenty to talk about by the end of the season.
None of the three area squads walked away with the Southeast Conference title, but it was still an eventful campaign. Along the way, a plethora of plays showed by their some of the best in the area.
Those players are represented on this years All-Union girls’ list.
Washington leads with four total selections, including the coach spot, captain and two players. Mt. Pleasant has two picks and Fairfield one.
This year’s list is junior led with just one senior gracing the list.
Coach: Shannon Rugg, Washington
Washington head coach Shannon Rugg is this years’ All-Union coach after helping the Demons take strides in 2024-25.
The Demons head man helped his team to a fourth-place finish in the Southeast Conference.
Washington finished 4-6 in league action. Overall the Demons finished 6-16.
Captain: Adalyn Long, junior, Washington
This year’s All-Union girls captain goes to Washington junior Adalyn Long. After ending last season with a season-ending injury, Long came back even stronger.
As unanimous first-team All-SEC selection, Long finished the season averaging 12.9 points to lead the Demons. That mark was third best in the league.
She also posted top five numbers in assists, averaging 3.0 a game. That not only led Washington, but was fourth best in the conference. She averaged 1.9 steals and 0.7 blocks per night, while shooting 35.8% from the field and 30.4% from three as well. All were team bests.
Kendall Hinrichsen, senior, Washington
Washington senior Kendall Hinrichsen was one of the top guards in the conference in her final go.
Hinrichsen did a little bit of everything for the Demons. She tallied 6.4 points a night, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals.
Faith Jones, junior, Fairfield
Fairfield junior Faith Jones was a second-team All-SEC pick this season.
Jones stepped into a larger role for the Trojans in her third year. The guard averaged a team best 8.1 points per game.
She also finished with 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.3 assists. Jones also shot a team best 32.7% from the field, while knocking down 31.3% of her threes.
Kynlee White, junior, Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant junior Kynlee White was once again a key piece of the Panthers success this season.
The third year player averaged a team third best 6.0 points a game with 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 assists.
White was often tasked with guarding the oppositions top guard. She was one of the top on ball defenders in the conference.
Oaklee Sobaski, junior, Washington
Washington junior Oaklee Sobaski took a step forward in her third varsity season. Sobaski stepped into a starting role for the Demons.
Sobaski averaged 5.6 points a game, 2.6 rebounds, 0.6 steals, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks.
Abby Carthey, junior, Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant junior Abby Carthey is back on the All-Union list after once again leading the Panthers.
An injury kept Carthey out early on, but she was right back at it after returning. Carthey averaged team best in points, assists and steals, carding 7.9 points, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals a night.
She also pulled down 4.4 rebounds.
